Description
Solar Symphony was Ireland’s flagship countdown event on New Year’s Eve 2019. It served as the finale show for city spectators and appeared live on RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster. The show involved custom content for two projection mapped buildings in Dublin City Centre at One George’s Quay & the iconic Custom House. A floating pontoon in the River Liffey supported the event with LED screens and platforms to host a live orchestral performance. This was the largest outdoor project mapping project to take place in Ireland, with 24 high powered laser projectors in 6 separate locations on both sides of the River Liffey.
The content was designed to compliment the physical architecture of both structures and transform the buildings surface into a solar symphony of light and motion.
It was imperative during the production and creative process to account for multiple projector locations for each building. Due to the incredible length of the custom house, production set up for a 360 degree vantage point, fully immersing the viewer from all angles, and enabling clear coverage for any broadcasting footage.
Led by Creative Director Johnny Donnelly, a team of multi-disciplinary designers and architectural technicians worked for several weeks over both projects to create a show that highlighted features of the buildings, enhanced musical elements and created an environment of anticipation leading up to the New Year.
